the sun is already up, maying us a -- paying us a visit this last day of fall. winter solstice is friday at 3:11 to be precise. we're starting out on the cold side, frost out there and cold numbers beginning to warm up a little bit. clouds will continue to thicken up as we head into the afternoon hours. we also introduce the chance of a -- the chance of a few showers in the north bay. we have this, a wind advisory not in place yet. but as winds increase out of the south, we could have winds gusting to right around 50 miles an hour. possible power outages. possibly into the weekend we could have some more wind advisories out there. here is the weather pattern developing offshore. this area of low pressure setting up a circulation, rotatingaround it. with that, it will point some storms right toward the bay area. a series of storms significant rainfall expected over the next few days. storm 1 for tonight into friday morning, saturday, another one and then by sunday afternoon, storm three could be approaching the region. these numbers, here are the forecast models.

most of us holding in the low 40s. it's breezy and the wind chill effect taking place around the bay area this morning. that's when the breeze just kind of sweeps away the heat from your body right from your skin and make itself feel chillier. along highway 101 still picking up a few scattered showers. you can see near coyote creek. most the rain has pushed off. around watsonville. a light rain and if you -- as you look at the forecast you can see it's out by nine or ten. we have partly cloudy skies, monday do you have new year's plans? there we are clouding up. the run wants to hold off the coast. notice how it slides right through. heading south. sort of like what we saw the last 24 hours. again going to leave in the possibility of a few sprinkles on new year's and new year's day. today partly cloudy and cool. low 50s in the forecast. we get past the few sprinkles, we are in good shape for today, tomorrow, a shower chance on new year's. we will be unsettled for wednesday. >> some new driving laws go into effect in 20

brian flores is in san francisco's castro district to tell us what might have -- to tell us what might happen today. >> dave, the latest we're hearing that is the u.s. supreme court will take some type of action, whether they will or not, early on later this morning or the afternoon, on whether or not they are gonna hear, postpone or postpone -- or deny anything on prop 8. the justices are meeting behind closed doors. let's lay out what could happen this morning. the first thing, the court may post a list of cases it will grant for review. if that happens, that means a hearing on prop 8 to start next year and a decision could be reached by next year. the secondly the court could decide what to do. if that happens that would mean the lower court's ruling would stand and that same-sex couples would marry as early as next week. the third situation -- this is something that happened on monday, the justices would simply put -- hold any action until further notice. they are not required to provide any reason why. but it could be until january. we'll keep following this throughout the morning
